The Daily 5 has come alive in our room. The team really knows how to be independant. As a matter of fact, Mr. Stanley visited a couple weeks ago and asked the students what the Daily 5 and CAFE were. The students answered all his questions and gave examples better than I ever could have. Feel free to ask your child what specific thing they are working on. Each team member chooses what they need to improve on. Interesting enough, they generally are the same things I would say they need work on. At this age, children are very honest with themselves. They set their own goals so they have  since of pride when trying to accomplish them.

I am very proud of how everyone tries hard and does their work. It really makes everyones day go smoothly. Mrs. Jerry is kind enough to help out during our Daily 5 time. With both her and I, we are able to meet with each student individually about twice a week during the Read to Self time. This is when we monitor and help them with meeting their goal.

We read because it's fun! The kids have fun doing it. It is great to see how everyones ready abilities are growing because of implementing the Daily 5 and CAFE.

There's something to say when you have two students who can't get enough of a book. WOW, it's awesome seeing students want to read because they like it. Keep it up kids.

The kids are building their reading and writing stamina. Here you can see a very hard working student building STAMINA during their Work on Writing time. Good job kids! Keep on building stamina.

A few girls acting as Junie B. Jones, Grace, and Lucille. The three acted out two chapters from their book for the rest of the team. They did a great job. This is a higher level comprehension strategy that all the students will try at least once this year.

Here you can see students working on their individualized spelling. The students choose the words they want to practice, and the words are picked from a list that is developmentally appropiate.

Here you can see another group of kids who are performing various parts of a book they just read. They did a great job. They said the book was great and has a surprise ending they they didn't expect. GREAT WORK!!!  The book they read was The Talking T-Rex.
